As my life right now just is not sooo exciting (but he will soon be again), here are a few things I've consumed recently and which I found interesting.
get only yesterday by Mr Kraus: A CD of Los Peter Sellers ( http://www.lospetersellers.com/ ), a English band that played mostly cover versions of English. The Fraggle song, Da-Da-Da, etc. .. very bizarre, very strange and very cool. And the best: The guys all see themselves as somehow out of Peter Sellers. Stuff there ... who should stumble over it because any time since a listen.
then also saw last night: Mirror Mask
A very strange film from Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman. Last term was supposed to be a (excellent writer), the former is the cover artist of Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels. And just as does the film - dreamy, strange, but extremely, extremely good. Content, it is reminiscent of the good old "Labyrinth", by the extremely low budget (I think they had about 2 million Pounds), he sometimes looks a bit sterile as it should, but it is impressive not least by the excellent actor. The thing is now around in the video stores. Who wants to see something different is nice!
And then there's Lost Girls - the new "great" work of Alan Moore. And that is great in every respect - three hardcover paperbacks in a slip-resistant, so you can kill someone.
The really dramatic is not the presentation, but the content. Lost Girls is another of the great post-modern works by Moore. He has deconstructed Watchmen with the superhero genre, then on a similar principle from Hell in the Jack the Ripper myth applied and now this .. Lost Girls is a pornographic work-up of Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz
By 1914, meet virtually on the eve of World War II, Alice, Dorothy and Wendy in a dean dents hotel in Austria tell and turn from their experiences. Here, the stories are re-interpreted as sexual metaphors. The whole is so diverse, complex and visually brilliant, it takes one language. It's obvious that Moore and Melinda Gebbie illustrator who worked for years on the thing. A very, very important work is probably the cause is still a lot of controversy and further evidence that Moore one of the most important and best contemporary Authors not only in comics is (who does not believe in Amazon gets Moore's novel "Voice of the Fire").
And I thought to Promethea, the old bearded face no longer surprise me ...
